Crispy homemade fries, cheesy mustard-fried venison, caramelized onions, pickles, tomatoes, and a creamy secret sauce — all packed into one seriously good bowl. If you’ve ever had an Animal-Style burger and thought, I need to make this with venison, this recipe is for you.

Ingredients

Scale

The Crispy Homemade Fries:

  • 4 medium Russet potatoes (approx. 1.5 lbs), washed and cut into 1/4-inch thick fries
  • Olive oil cooking spray
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt to taste

The Venison Burger:

  • 1.5 lbs ground venison
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and cracked black pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp regular yellow mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

The Caramelized Onions:

  • 2 large yellow onions, finely diced
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • Splash of water

The Toppings & Sauce:

  • 1 large head of romaine or iceberg lettuce, shredded
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup dill pickle chips
  • 4 thin slices thin-cut sharp cheddar cheese
  • The Sauce: ½ cup plain non-fat Greek yogurt, 2 tbsp ketchup, 1 tbsp finely diced pickles, 1 tbsp pickle juice, 1 tsp yellow mustard

Instructions

  1. Slice the potatoes into even 1/4-inch thick french fries. Soak them in cold water for 15 minutes to remove excess starch, then pat them completely dry with a towel. Toss with a light spray of olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and salt. Air-fry at 400°F (200°C) until golden and crispy, about 20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through.
  2. Heat 1 tsp of olive oil in a skillet over medium-low heat. Add the diced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook slowly for about 20 minutes, stirring frequently, until they turn deep golden brown. (Add a splash of water if they start to catch). Remove and set aside.
  3. Heat your skillet to medium-high. Add the ground venison to the pan in a flat layer and season the top side evenly with the garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Let it sit undisturbed for 1–2 minutes to develop a rich, savory crust.
  4. Distribute the yellow mustard and Worcestershire sauce evenly over the top of the browning venison. Flip and chop the meat, frying it directly into that mustard layer.
  5. Divide the meat into 4 sections in the pan, turn off the heat, and place a slice of cheddar over each portion to melt.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together all the ingredients for the sauce and set aside.
  7. Lay down a bed of shredded lettuce on one side of your 4 meal prep containers, and stack a generous portion of the homemade french fries right next to it. Top the fries and lettuce with the cheesy mustard-fried venison, a massive scoop of caramelized onions, cherry tomatoes, and dill pickles. Pack the secret sauce in separate small containers to drizzle right before eating.
