These easy crispy venison tacos come together in just 25 minutes with ground venison, taco seasoning, tortillas and cheese. A simple wild game dinner that tastes so good you can eat it every week!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 tablespoons oil, divided
  • 1 pound ground venison
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • ¼ cup water
  • 8 small flour tortillas
  • 2 cups shredded cheese, such as Mexican blend, Monterey Jack or Pepper Jack

Optional Toppings, For Serving

  • Sour Cream
  • Salsa
  • Guacamole

Instructions

  1. Heat a cast iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
  2. Add 1 tablespoon of oil and the ground venison. Cook until browned, breaking it into crumbles as it cooks.
  3. Stir in the taco seasoning and water. Simmer for 2–3 minutes, until the meat is well coated and most of the liquid has evaporated. Remove the seasoned venison from the skillet.
  4. Add the remaining oil to the skillet. Place one tortilla in the skillet. Sprinkle a pinch of cheese over half of the tortilla, add a scoop of venison, then top with a little more cheese. Fold the tortilla over.
  5. Cook for 2–3 minutes per side, until the tortilla is crispy and golden and the cheese is melted. Repeat with the remaining tortillas and filling.
  6. Serve immediately with your favorite taco toppings. I especially love dipping these crispy venison tacos in guacamole.

Notes

Cheese: Mexican blend, Monterey Jack and Pepper Jack all work great. Pepper Jack is especially good if you want a little extra kick.

Tortillas: Small flour tortillas work best because they crisp up quickly and are easy to fold. You can experiment with corn tortillas, but the texture will be different.

Toppings: Keep it simple with guacamole, salsa or sour cream, or load them up with your favorite taco toppings.

Venison: This recipe works with lean ground venison. If your ground venison is especially lean, the oil helps keep the meat from sticking and gives the tortillas enough fat to get nice and crispy.
