Meet your new favorite wild game appetizer. Venison Sloppy Joe Sliders are made with ground venison, onions, bell peppers, cheddar cheese and a simple but amazing homemade sloppy joe sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  •  1 tablespoon Olive Oil or Butter
  • 1 Large Green Bell Pepper, Diced
  • 1 Large Red Bell Pepper, Diced
  • 1 medium Yellow Onion, Diced
  • 1 pound Ground Venison
  • ¾ cup Ketchup
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked Paprika
  • Salt and Black Pepper
  • 1 (12-pack) package Slider Buns
  • 810 Slices Cheddar or American Cheese

Garlic Butter

  • 4 tablespoons Melted Butter
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh Parsley, Chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder

Instructions

  1. In butter or oil a large skillet over medium high heat. Once heated, add in diced green bell pepper, diced red bell pepper and diced onion. Saute the vegetables until softened, about 3-5 minutes.
  2. In the same skillet, add in ground venison and cook it until its browned, breaking it up as it cooks, about 5-7 minutes. Once browned, drain off any fat.
  3. Add in ketchup, wishes your sauce, mustard, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper to taste. Mix well and simmer for 1-2 minutes, or until thickened slightly. Set aside.
  4. Line a baking dish or sheet with parchment paper. Add the bottom half of the slider buns. Top with sloppy joe mixture using the back end of a spoon to evenly spread the mixture across the buns. Top with sliced cheese and tops of the buns.
  5. Bake in the oven for 10 minutes.
  6. While the sliders are in the oven, mix together the melted butter, parsley and garlic powder. Brush onto the tops of the slider buns and place the sliders back into the oven for another 5 minutes, or until toasted.
  7. Serve immediately.

Notes

Make In Advance:

    • If you need to make these Venison Sloppy Joe Sliders ahead of time, I would make ONLY the meat mixture ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator until you are ready to serve the sliders. The buns will get too wet and fall apart if you try to assemble the sandwiches ahead of time. You may also need to adjust the cooking time to ensure the sloppy joe mixture is heated back up thoroughly.
