Tips for Perfect Venison Sloppy Joes

  • Don’t overcook your venison. Venison is lean, so it cooks fast — just brown it until no longer pink.
  • Add a little fat if needed. If your venison is extra lean, mix in a tablespoon of butter or a small splash of oil to help it stay juicy.
  • Use a cast iron skillet. It gives that classic burger flavor and keeps the meat evenly cooked.
  • Make it yours. Add chopped jalapeños for heat, or swap the cheese for pepper jack to give it a little kick.
